Why We Exist

When someone important dies, it can feel like the ground disappears.
Like life has split into a before and after, and nothing quite fits the same way again.

For many young people, grief is a lonely place.
Support can be hard to find. Understanding, even harder.

Apart of Me was created because too many young people are left to face grief on their own.
Behind every statistic is a real story. Like Jamie’s:

“When I found out my dad had six months left to live, I didn’t have anywhere to turn. I felt completely alone.”

Through years of listening, learning, and working alongside young people, a clear picture has emerged.
Unsupported grief often goes underground—misunderstood, dismissed, or buried.

But there is also quiet strength.
Moments of connection.
A deepening of compassion that grows in the shadow of loss.

That’s where Apart of Me begins.
A place shaped by young people’s voices.
Informed by clinical wisdom.
Designed to offer gentle, accessible support through grief.

From our therapeutic game to our resources, everything we create exists to hold space for what’s hard—and to help young people feel less alone, and more understood.

The "how" might evolve.
But the "why" has always been the same:

Young people grieving someone they love. They shouldn’t have to face it alone.

Our Mission

We are on a mission to give millions of young people all over the world the power to deal with life’s biggest challenges. Our aim is to prevent serious mental health and social problems developing through unresolved or complicated grief. We do this by:

Providing immediate, accessible grief support to young people.

Using digital interventions as a stepping stone to build healing relationships and community in the real world.

Connecting young people through shared experiences, reducing loneliness and fostering compassion.

Harnessing the transformative potential of grief, helping young people discover new strengths and a deeper sense of meaning and community.

Pioneering early intervention and prevention strategies in youth mental health.

Amplifying youth voices, empowering them to shape a more compassionate world.

Celebrating the power of broken-open hearts as our shared vulnerability becomes our collective strength.

Through these actions, we strive to break intergenerational cycles of unresolved grief and trauma, laying the groundwork for a more connected and compassionate world.

Who are we?

Apart of Me is a UK-registered charity supporting young people who are grieving the death of someone they love.

We combine clinical expertise with thoughtful, youth-led design to create safe digital spaces where grief can be explored with care.

At the heart of our work is Apart of Me—a free, award-winning therapeutic game that offers support, guidance, and comfort to bereaved young people, wherever they are in the world.

Everything we create is shaped by the voices of young people.

Because we believe in their strength, their wisdom, and how far they can go when they’re held with compassion.

Global impact so far

Launched globally in December 2018, our services help young people worldwide navigate grief. In 2019, an independent evaluation showed that our game helps young people make sense of how and what they're feeling and provides empathetic support as and when they need it.
