Say It Sucks

Dear Auntie,

When I’m grieving, I wish you knew that you don’t have to make it better. You can’t. Sometimes I just want someone to say what I’m feeling but can’t always say out loud—“this sucks.”

Because it really does.

It sucks that they’re not here. It sucks that I have to go to school like everything’s normal. It sucks that my whole world changed and everyone else just keeps going.

I don’t need you to fix it. I just need you to not look away from it. To let it be what it is.

So if you don’t know what to say, maybe just say that: “This sucks. And I’m here.”

That helps more than you know.

Love,
Me
